La Tenda di Gionata is an Italian association which mission is to create dialogue between the Catholic church, LGBT+ people, their parents and pastors workers was received by the Pope during his public audience on Wednesday, 16 September.
Mara Grassi, a catholic mother whose son is gay, and vice president of Tenda di Gionata, represented the group of 43 people (including parents of LGBT+ children , LGBT+ Christians and pastors), presenting at the Vatican and gifted to the Pope the book “Genitori fortunati”, which means “Lucky parents”. She told His Sanctity that parents with LGBT+ children are lucky parents because they have been forced to change the way they looked at their children.
The intensity of their love for their children has enabled them to see God’s love and beauty in them despite their sexual orientation. As parents they are willing to help the church to walk hand in hand and, where necessary, be the bridge for the church to change their view towards their children. Therefore being more inclusive and fully welcoming . Pope Francis replied to these beautiful words saying, “Definitely God loves them the way they are because they are all children of God and so does the church.”
